Weekend Edition: Fruit Salad Needs To Be Part of Everyday Life

fresh fruit salad

I’m realizing that I have a major sweet tooth. I don’t apologize for it either. But my lover and I have been talking about possibly taking a trip to a place with sandy beaches and palm trees. You know what that means? I have to actually work to get rid of these love handles. Uggggh. So, I’m going to take the extra time during the weekend to chop all this stuff up, throw it in a bowl, and actually consume it.

Three Teeny Tiny Mascaras from the Hautelook/Nordstrom Beauty Bag

Nordstrom Mascara Madness Beauty Bag

Back in October, I purchased the Nordstrom Mascara Madness Beauty Bag from Hautelook. There were items like Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara, Bobbi Brown Lash Glamour Extreme Lengthening Mascara, Stila Stay All Day Volumizing Waterproof Mascara, Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara and a few others. Every day, I’d pick out one of the 12 mascaras, and without looking at the brand, I’d try it on.

Just because it’s pricey, doesn’t mean it’s good.

There were quite a few that retailed for $20+, and they did absolutely nothing for my lashes. But as always, I have to remind you that my lashes go in all different directions, and have a natural spider effect on their own. It takes a lot to woo me when it comes to mascara. I’ve officially tried them all, and the three that I liked most were Bare Minerals Flawless Definition Mascara($18), Lancôme Définicils High Definition Mascara ($27) and YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking Mascara($30).

The Bare Minerals and Lancome mascaras made an impression on me because they helped separate my lashes really well, while still defining them and giving them volume. They weren’t excessively volumizing, but would be a fantastic choice for every day. But the YSL Shocking mascara was full-on, high impact faux lash mascara. Your lashes don’t feel dry and fused together after using it either. The question is, could I pay $30 every couple of months for YSL Shocking mascara? My student loans are about to kick in, and I really shouldn’t indulge….so I’ll report back after this sample is bone dry. : )

The Hautelook Beauty Bag isn’t around anymore (it sold out in a few hours), but here’s Nordstrom’s selection of mascaras that are always available.

7-Day Blog Revamp [Day 2]: Create Your Blog’s Mission Page or About Section

Welcome to Day 2!

I’m really excited about this section, creating your blog’s mission page and/or about me section. I think this is important because it tells your readers who you are, and what kind of information you’re giving them. Basically, this is an opportunity to reach out to your readers, welcome them, and explain why they should keep coming back for more. I check out new blogs all the time. If it’s really interesting to me, I dive deeper and deeper into content. But if I see an “about me” image or “start here” page, I stop dead in my tracks to check it out!

Some things you can include are: Continue Reading →

7-Day Blog Revamp [Day 1]: Assess Your Blog (And Set Your Goals!)

Scandalous Beauty Blog Revamp Day 1

Welcome!

Today is the first day of the 7-Day Blog Revamp! If this is the first time we’re meeting, my name is Erin Bailey. I’ve been blogging about makeup for seven years now. I have to admit, this challenge is going to be a workout for all of us. Yep, I’m doing it with you! My blog needs some TLC, so I think we can all benefit.

Today, we’re going to start out with an assessment. We’re going to see where we are, so we can figure out where we’re going. Some of you might be hippie bloggers–you post whenever, aren’t concerned with who’s reading or what your stats are, and you do it for personal enjoyment. Others could be looking at it as a serious hobby, treating it like a part-time job, pumping your heart and soul into it. Others might see it as a profession, using it to help bring in steady income and build a brand. All of these options are fan-freakin-tastic.

So lets look ahead. Where do you want your blog to be in 3 months? What goals do you want to accomplish? Where do you want to be on your next blogiversary? What about in January 2014? What about 5 years from now? There’s no right or wrong time frame.
